Location
and Overview Echo
Canyon Reservoir is located within Echo Canyon State Park, 12 miles
from the town of Pioche, NV via SR 322 and SR 86 (check out the map).
It is close enough to Las Vegas to be a convenient getaway, and at an
elevation of about 5200 feet can provide a welcome respite from the
Southern Nevada summer heat as well as some good fishing.
Fishin'
Echo Canyon Reservoir
Largemouth bass,
crappie, rainbow trout, and the occasional brown trout all make Echo
Canyon Reservoir their home, and can be caught all year long. A variety
of baits and techniques are productive; for information on what's hot
at any given time of the year check with park staff. The
Nevada Department of Wildlife stocks
the lake with rainbows periodically throughout the year.

In
addition to ample shore fishing opportunities, Echo Canyon features
a boat launch ramp for those who prefer to fish from a boat.
A limited selection of bait and tackle are available at a small store
located at nearby Eagle Valley Reservoir.
The closest town where other supplies could be purchased is Pioche,
12 miles away. Las Vegas, about 4 hours to the south, boasts a Bass
Pro Shops store, which carries just about everything you'll ever
need for fishing.
Echo
Canyon Reservoir also offers easy access to other fishing opportunities
within the area, including Eagle Valley
Reservoir (rainbows and brown trout), and Meadow Valley Wash (stream
fishing for rainbow and brown trout).
Weather
Echo Canyon Reservoir tends to be warm during the summer and cold in
the winter. Average summer high temperatures are from 85 to 95 degrees,
with nighttime lows typically dropping into the middle 50's. Rainfall
is variable, and thunderstorms are common. Winter brings colder temperatures
and occasionally snow. Whatever time of year you go, be sure to check
the weather forecast first.

Lodging
and Camping Echo Canyon State Park has
one campground within its boundaries, with sites rented on a first-come,
first served basis. Other campgrounds in the area include Horsethief
Gulch Campground and Ranch Campground, both near Eagle
Valley Reservoir, and Meadow Valley Campground located between
Echo Canyon and Eagle Valley Reservoirs.
The
town of Pioche boasts a decent selection of hotels, rental cabins, and

Licensing
and Regulations
All anglers must have a current Nevada fishing license to fish in Echo
Canyon Reservoir or any of the other nearby waters. Additionally, a
trout stamp is required to take any species of trout. There is a 5-trout
limit, while up to 15 warmwater game fish (including no more than 10
black bass) may also be possessed. Only one pole may be used, unless
you purchase a second pole stamp.
